Rebecca Mzengi Corey is an arts practitioner whose interdisciplinary work includes visual art, curation, filmmaking, and cultural institution building and management. She has held top leadership roles at Nafasi Art Space, Sauti za Busara music festival, and the Tanzania Heritage Project, making significant contributions to the cultural landscape of East Africa where she has lived and worked for more than a decade (2012-23). While Director of Nafasi Art Space in Dar es Salaam, Rebecca initiated the Academy for Contemporary Art and Expression, Tanzania’s first contemporary art training program, and oversaw the development of the FEEL FREE Fund, which provides significant funding support and mentorship to artist-led initiatives across the country. She also spearheaded efforts to create a more thriving and networked arts ecosystem across the region, through initiatives such as Tukutane Dar Arts Week, a bi-annual event which brings together arts practitioners from East, Central, and Southern Africa to exchange and collaborate.
