Martha Kazungu is a curator, art historian and cultural consultant living and working between Nairobi and Kampala, Kenya. She is the founding director of the Njabala Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation facilitating visibility for women artists.
Martha holds a Master’s Degree in African Visual and Verbal Art, with a focus on curating and media, from the University of Bayreuth. She previously served as co-curator for the German Federal Cultural Foundation’s Turn2 Labs in Nairobi, Tunis and Dakar.
More recently, Martha completed her tenure as assistant curator at Museum am Rothenbaum (MARKK) with a co-curated exhibition in the 8th Triennial of Photography in Hamburg. She is an alumna of TheMuseumsLab, Independent Curators International (ICI), the Àsìkò School, the C& Writers’ Workshop and AtWork. Her current projects include long-term research on women artists in 1960s Africa.
