Currently CEO of Javett Art Centre at UP, Lekgetho Makola is the former Head of Market Photo Workshop. He participated in a number of visual storytelling platforms that includes, the Rencontres de Bamako in Mali, New York Times portfolio reviews, Curator of UNCTAD 2021, The Art Bank SA, and Chair of World Press Photo Contest General Jury 2020.
Lekgetho’s artistic philosophy is embedded in advocacy as a Ford Foundation Fellow on Social Justice. He sits on the advisory committees to the boards of CathLight and Social Documentary Network in the USA.
Lekgetho, a graduate of Howard University, has accumulated experience in arts management from institutions he worked in 20 years. He advocates for the professionalisation of the arts practice by supporting building of new characters into artistic institutions beyond the traditional. He is a founding member of Centres of Learning for Photography in Africa, a continental network for photographic hubs.
